Category R:  This applies to all inland waters e.g. rivers, lagoons and dams.
Category E:   Vessels going 1NM offshore.
Category C:   Vessels going 15 NM offshore.
Category B:   Vessels going 40 NM offshore.

Skippers Course Breakdown:
Lectures:  The theory is covered in 3 lectures approx 3 hours each.
Practical Training:  Minimum of 50 hours practical training which is completed on route to dive sites and day to day charter operation.  If you already have the necessary skippers hours signed off by a certified skipper (similar Category or greater), it is not necessary to complete the practical training.
Theoretical Exam: 2 – 3 Hours
Practical Exam: 2 Hours

Diving Endorsement:
To obtain this, we supply SAMSA with your PADI Divemaster Number and proof of certification.
We also ensure that you complete the “diving endorsement” addendum to the skippers exam.

Surf Launch Endorsement:
In order to launch from a designated “surf” launch site, it is required to do additional training and obtain the surf launch endorsement on your skippers license.
Training required: 12 training surf launches ( a maximum of 3 can be done on one day).    This component is at an additional cost and dependent on previous skipper experience.
